“Jacket structures are the core business for our yard in Verdal. I am pleased to see that we have won such a huge and important contract in an international competitive bidding process”, says Jarle Tautra, executive vice president of Aker Solutions.
The contract will be executed by Aker Solutions' yard in Verdal, and includes engineering, procurement, construction, load-out and sea-fastening of the two steel jackets and associated piles.
The drilling and production jacket will have a total weight of 22 300 tonnes, while the quarters utility jacket will have a total weight of approximately 9 000 tonnes.
Detailed engineering starts immediately, with fabrication in Verdal commencing in June 2011, following final approval of the project by the Clair Ridge Joint Venture. The jackets will be ready for load-out in mid February 2013, and will be delivered in March 2013.
Verdal is one of the few yards in Europe specialising in jacket construction. It currently has two oil and gas jackets under construction (Gudrun for Statoil and Ekofisk 2/4L for ConocoPhillips) and 48 jackets for offshore wind farm project Nordsee Ost for RWE Innogy.
