Smaller increase in unemployment

New figures from the The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, NAV shows that there are 77 100 registered unemployed job seekers at the end of August, representing 3.0 percent of the workforce.
It means a decrease of 1 300 people compared to July. However, in terms of normal seasonal fluctuations, there has been an increase of about 700 people in the total number of unemployment.

Lowest in teaching
Lowest unemployment growth was witnessed in the education sector, where there has been 13 percent more seats in one year. The strongest growth occured in the construction and engineering and ICT areas. Unemployment in these sectors has doubled since last August.

Fewer New Job Opportunities
In August, 21 percent fewer new positions were announced than at the same time last year.The strongest decrease occured in engineering and ICT disciplines and manufacturing, where up to 50 percent less postitons were announced.
– I’m glad to see that unemployment is now growing less than in winter. At the same time I want to warn those who believe that the crisis is over, “said Labor and Social Inclusion Dag Terje Andersen as a response to the NAV’s figures.
