The violent scenes in Washington DC are met with strong reactions from Norwegian politicians.
Four people have died, including one in a fatal shooting inside the U.S. Capitol, and more than a dozen police officers were injured after a Donald Trump supporters stormed the congress building, temporarily shutting down a vote to declare Biden´s victory.
Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg called the invasion “a completely unacceptable attack on democracy”.
NATO Secretary General and former Norwegian PM Jen Stoltenberg described what he saw as “shocking” and called for respect.
Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide also reacts strongly and writes “Trump has a special responsibility to ensure that the situation comes under control”.
Labor Party leader Jonas Gahr Støre condemned the attack on the senate building. He said he believes that the power of American democracy will resist.
Norway´s right-wing party FrP politician Christian Tybring-Gjedde also said he is terrified of what is now happening in the United States. He said it looks like President Donald Trump is mentally unbalanced. Gjedde had nominated Trump for Nobel Peace Prize last year.
