Støre Will Not Help Snowden to Norway

Talking to Klassekampen. Labor Party leader Jonas Gahr Støre hopes Snowden to be allowed to come to Norway but he does not want to go into the matter.

– It would be dangerous if I as a politician intervene the issue. This must be decided by the police and immigration authorities, he said.

Justice Minister Anders Anundsen has so far not commented on the matter. He notes that the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) processes visa applications from foreigners and the courts determine extradition issues.

– Such cases cannot be determined by whether one likes a person or not. This must be dealt on an equal footing with other matters without the politicians’ intervention, says Labor leader.

Bjørnson Academy wants to present the award to Edward Snowden in Molde on 5 September.
