FrP: Norway Will Not Take 10,000 Syrian Refugees

During her party’s convention on Saturday, Jensen touched upon the refugee debates in Norway and the movements in the Mediterranean, Syria, Iraq and other areas, writes Aftenposten.

FrP leader noted that it is impossible not to be affected with the developments. Therefore Norway commits itself to find a solution to the problem, said Jensen and listed how Norway currently has contributed by helping neighboring areas.

But she does not want Norway to follow up the promise from Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre, promising to accept 10,000 refugees from Syria in the next two years.

– Norway can not take on tasks we can not handle. Therefore FRP refuses to accept 10,000 quota refugees, but accepts to increase aid in neighboring areas, says Progress Party leader.

Finance Minister says the cost to settle 1,000 refugees in Norway are around 1 billion NOK over five years.

– It means that instead of settling a refugee in Norway, we can help 14 refugees in camps in neighboring countries, says Jensen.
