Norway Intelligence Claims Russian Intelligence Intensifies Monitoring Norwegian Energy Activities

The chief of the Police Security Service (PST), Benedicte Bjørnland told Aftenposten that the Russia has now directed its intelligence operations against Norway’s energy sector. Norway is one of the premier energy suppliers in Europe – where oil, gas and hydropower are key resources.

– We note that Russian intelligence service is seeking information about Norwegian defense and NATO’s plans and strategies. It can serve Russia and weaken the West. The information can be used in sabotage purposes, if the need should arise, says Bjørnland.

The Norwegian power industry is now trying to sharpen preparedness against industrial espionage and possible future sabotage. The industry is already establishing its own “anti espionage company.
