Norway Explores Deeper Cooperation with Cuba

On Monday, Brende met his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez to discuss the opportunities to develop relations between the two countries.

– Our countries have relations of friendship, respect and cooperation, and there is a positive progress, at the same time, a potential to be developed, said Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, Brende expressed Norway’s intentions to strengthen ties with Havana.

Among other meetings, Brende will follow the ongoing round of negotiations between the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas, taking place in Havana. Norway and Cuba are among the countries that have facilitated the negotiations.

Cuba and Norway established diplomatic relations on May 12, 1909 and rose to the rank of Embassy in November 1961.

Since 1993 Norway has voted in favor of the Cuban resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, writes Cuban newspaper Escambray.
