Norway Will Send Soldiers to Africa

In a poll Sentio did for the Norwegian daily Klasse Kampen a week after the terrorist attack against the Statoil gas plant in Algeria, 43 percent of the respondents said Norway should send military forces to North Africa.

Defence Minister Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen said this is a sign that many have discovered the security challenges in this area, so it may help us to the support the military intervention in Mali.

Strøm-Erichsen also suggested that any military participation in Mali is entirely independent of the terrorist attack in Algeria where five Norwegians were among the many killed hostages.
