Norwegian Liberals are Shaken with Rape Scandal

Helge Solum Larsen has admitted to have had sex with 17-year-old, but he acknowledged it is not rape. In tears, party leader Trine Skei Grande said that he has resigned from all party positions, calling it a “gruesome” situation and said he had comitted a “breach of confidence” towards her. 

Per A. Thorbjørnsen confirmed at a press conference Tuesday that Solum Larsen has resigned from all positions of trust in the party, and suspended all elected positions until the matter is resolved, according to Aftenbladet.

Gro Skartveit will take over as leader of the Liberal Party's county council group.

Helge Solum Larsen

Helge Solum Larsen (born 14 January 1969) is a Norwegian businessman and politician for the Liberal Party (Venstre). He served as deputy leader of the party from 2010 until 2012.

From 1994 to 1997 he was the leader of the Young Liberals of Norway, the youth wing of the Liberal Party. He served as a deputy representative to the Norwegian Parliament from Rogaland during the terms 1997–2001 and 2005–2009.

On the local level he has served several terms in Stavanger city council. He also chairs the countywide party chapter. In 2008 he became a member of the national party board. He was elected deputy leader of the Liberal Party at the 2010 Annual Meeting.
