The Crown Prince is accompanied by the Research and Higher Education Minister Tora Aasland and Trade and Industry Minister Trond Giske.
During the visit, the crown prince will hold the Norwegian opening address at the Transatlantic Science Week, which takes place at the University of California Berkeley and Stanford University. Transatlantic Science Week is being held for the tenth time, and is an important meeting place for politicians, scientists, managers and others who work with higher education, research and innovation in the United States, Canada and Norway. The Crown Prince will also meet Norwegian students at the University of California, Berkeley and visit The Norwegian Seamen's Church in San Francisco.
During the visit, he focuses on the Norwegian business interests in California. In this frame, the prince will open the Innovation Norway's "Innovation House" in Palo Alto and meet entrepreneurs from eight Norwegian companies in Silicon Valley. The Crown Prince will also meet representatives of the architectural firm Snøhetta, which has won the competition for the expansion of the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, and the Norwegian IT company Meltwater Group. He will also visit the company Loral Space Systems, which collaborates with Telenor and Apple.
