Norway Eases Sanctions against Iran

IAEA confirmed today that Iran has fulfilled its initial commitments in the nuclear agreement that was signed last summer.

Norway’s Foreign Minister Børge Brende describes the decision as an important milestone in the international efforts for nuclear disarmament.

– The repeal of a large part of the sanctions against Iran allows the country to become more integrated into the international community, both politically and economically, said Mr Brende.

He also suggested that the implementation of the agreement is a significant victory for diplomacy and for joint international efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Norway has provided extraordinary support with 14 million NOK aid to the IAEA’s efforts. In addition, Norway contributed in December to finance and transport natural uranium to Iran as a substitute for enriched uranium. This was an important step in the implementation of the agreement.
