Norway General Synod Says Yes to Same Sex Marriage at Churches

Church of Norway General Synod has endorsed the preparation of liturgies for marriage of same-sex couples. From now on, all churches in Norway will offer marriage service for gay couples.

But at the same time priests and other church staff will have right to refuse to participate in the ceremony of gays, said the bishops in a press release.

The organization Åpen folkekirke (Open national church) has been fighting for gay marriage, and received strong support in the church elections in late September.

Talking to NRK, chairman of the organization Sturla Stålsett called the Synod’s decision as “historical”.
