According to a recently adopted reform based on a proposal prepared by the Immigration and Police Directorate, UDI will gradually take over police's duties starting in 2012.
– We believe this will provide better service, shorter processing time and a more transparent application process for the applicants, "says Ida Børresen from UDI.
11 Regional Offices
For the new system, 11 new regional offices that will work with residence issues will be established. Børresen also stated that this reform can modernize the service they offer, shorter waits and improve the expertise level in all units. "We must achieve greater efficiency and shorten queues", added the UDI director.On the other hand, the police will still have a central role in asylum cases.
