Unemployment Unchanged in February

– Developments of this year have been better than expected. Unemployment has remained low in Norway despite a weak economic development in Europe, says Minister of Labour and Welfare Director Joakim Lystad.

In the end of February, there were 69,500 unemployed registered in NAV. This is a decrease of 7,900 persons or 10 percent compared to last year's February. The unemployment rate is now 2.7 percent of the workforce.

The biggest decline for construction workers

Unemployment has fallen by 24 percent for construction workers and 19 percent for people with a background in engineering and ICT, according to figures from NAV. Within the teaching professions, as well as tourism and transportation, unemployment has remained stable. Unemployment has increased only for children and youth workers, where there have been four per cent more unemployed in the past year.
