In 2013, a hundred years ago Norwegian women received the right to vote, and Folketeater wants to celebrate this with a master piece representing a strong female voice, My Fair Lady.
With Kåre Conradi, Nina Hammarklev, Dennis Storhøi, Lise Fjeldstad and Mari Maurstad, the performance lasts approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes including break. So, far 40.000 tickets were sold and the last performance will be staged on April 6th.
About the musical
My Fair Lady is a musical based upon George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion and with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a well-born lady.
The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals. It has been called “the perfect musical”.Â
Eliza character is significant in terms of representing woman’s evolving status. She provokes with his directness and his ability to get people around her to open the eyes of the community they are a part of. Eliza, a vibrant woman also develop independence of thought, and the right to be an entirely human, and it is here that the whole story starts.
