Norway Welcomes UN's decision on Kosovo's Independence Case
Norway welcomes that the UN Court has fully confirmed Kosovo's declaration of independence in 17 February 2008.

Photo: Thomas Guignard | Serbia had taken the indepence of Kosovo to UN on the ground of breaking the international law last year. Norway had recognized the Republic of Kosovo in 28 March 2008.
The court verified that Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia in February 2008 did not violate international law by 10 votes to four. Norway greeted the decision positively as it is in line with Norway's view.

- We reiterate our full support to the UN Charter principles and to the International Court of Justice , the UN's primary judicial organ. I salute the statement from the Hague Tribunal welcome. We call now the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Kosovo to cooperate fully to lay the old disputes behind them to ensure a better future in the region, said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store .

Norway voted in favor of the request from the UN General Assembly for an advisory opinion and took part in the proceedings before the Court .

- Norway does not consider that there is no general right to secession under international law. It was a very special events in Kosovo related to the conflicts in Balkans. It created a unique situation, said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store .
