Police in Oslo had an overall impression that the size of the fines has not worked sufficiently preventively. The Chief of Police has with immediate effect, decided to increase the penalty for the purchase of sexual services to 25 000 kroner - that's close to triple.

- In line with the intentions behind the new law, we want that the buying of sex market in Oslo should not appear as attractive for the ones who want to exploit women. Now everyone knows that a law was introduced against buying sex. We emphasize, therefore, significantly to enhance the effect of the efforts that the police do in this area, says Deputy Police Chief Hans Halvorsen of the Oslo police.

"Easy" to buy sex

Since buying sex law was introduced at the beginning of the year, street prostitution in Oslo, has been more or less disappeared. In addition, less activity in the market was registered.

Since last summer, however, street prostitution increased again. Oslo police has also investigated 19 reported human cases linked to prostitution environment since 1 January, as well as five major pimp cases.
