Leadership Discussion in Norway’s Labor Party after NATO Appointment

Updated at 10:45

The main agenda of the meeting is whether to call an extraordinary national convention to select the new party leader, or whether to let  the deputy leader Helga Pedersen lead the party until the annual national convention in 2015.

The committee decided to keep Pedersen option instead of an extra ordinary congress, considering that it is both expensive and time consuming.

Jonas Gahr Støre is the favorite candidate as the successor of Stoltenberg. Helga Pedersen’s role as deputy has also been the subject of speculation in the media, and many have pointed to the possibility that the party’s deputy will change. Hadia Tajik and Trond Giske are two names mentioned as possible candidates for deputy position.

But any change does not seem to come before the annual congress in the spring of 2015.
