Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg leads the Norwegian delegation to the summit, where both Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Minister of Defence Espen Barth Eide participate.

- Summit in Chicago is about what kind of NATO we will have in the future. The Alliance must adapt to a new era and future threats, but also corrects a renewed focus on core activities and defense of their own neighborhoods, said Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The main issue at the Summit is how NATO can improve its defense capability at a time when most member countries of the alliance have to cut their defense budgets. The defense package that will be presented at the Summit is to ensure better planning and coordination of defense procurement, as well as a plan to increase the number of exercises in the wake of the ISAF operation's completion in 2014.

Other issues to be discussed during the summit include the ISAF operation in Afghanistan, missile defense, NATO's plan for deterrence and defense as well as cooperation with NATO's many partner countries. Norway Summit has initiated the establishment of a position as special representative of NATO's work on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
