Norway is ignored by China in the Arctic calls, even though Norges Bank has an office of Norway's Government Pension Fund Global in Shanghai to cover the increasingly important Asia region for several years, according to TV2.

For the last two years, Norges Bank's Supervisory committee vainly tried to bring about a visit to China. Supervisory Board Chairman Reidar Sandal confirmed that it is not possible to arrange meetings with political authorities and representatives from China's central bank and finance ministry.

Standing Committee on Finance had recently droppeda trip to China. The Committee had chosen instead to go to Singapore, said the committee's second vice-chairman Jan Tore Sanner.

Senior Scientist Geir Flikke at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) believes that Norway plays a key role in Arctic issues. He believes China has great interest in the Arctic and China needs Norway more than Norway needs China.

China had introduced sanctions against Norway as soon as the Nobel Peace prize was announced to be given to the Chinese dissinent, Liu xiabo in 2010.
