Nobel Peace Prize 2013 is Announced

On Friday, 11. October 2013, at 11.00 a.m. CET, The Norwegian Nobel Committee will announce the Nobel Peace Prize laureate(s) for 2013.There are several favorites for this year’s prize.

Pakistani young activist Malala tops the list of many. One  year ago, Malala Yousafzai (16) was shot by the Taliban in Pakistan, because she fought for the right of girls to go to school. Now she is the top favorite to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

While Snowden loses his popularity in the last few months, he was among the favorites. But considering political sensitivity of his nomination, he is not considered to be a strong canditate.

There are also other potential candidates from Russia, where the situation of freedom of expression and human rights activists are controversial.

The female activists Lyudmila Alexeyev , Svetlana Gannushkina and Lilya Shiba Nova represents three generations of human rights defenders in the country. Two of them have been nominated several times.
